Down in Hamil Town

By Phil Young Copyright 2008 Sovereign Books Limited

Let¡¯s go down to Hamil town

And look around

At the Smith¡¯s and Brown¡¯s

Where the Smith¡¯s make the ploughs

And the Brown¡¯s

Plough the ground

Now the first Hamil town

Was probably back in England

Where they had cows and sows

And ham in the town

Which might¡¯ve been why

It was called Ham il town

But also a man named Ham

Was known to be Noah¡¯s son

Who was the one

Who got Noah drunk

For Ham followed the Canaanite ways

And built the first Ham il town

Down on the Shinar Plain

Back by the river of Babylon

Anyway in the world today

There are many Ham il towns and cities

Where people live in their communities

Taking care of their families

And if you go down to Hamil town

You see what¡¯s around

There is a band playing today

With a circus and merry go round

And if you arrive at the airport check in

You can scan the iris of your eye in

To the machine

According to the system

According to the age we live in

And if the eye in the machine winks back at you

It¡¯s just big brother

Showing you he has a sense of humour

For he is human too

And the young ones

Like to live their lives

In cyber space

As one way

Of being part of the human race

All because of the technology

That they have in cities these days

And because we live in this age

And the citizens of Hamil town

Have made their city

Look exceedingly pretty

With wonderful gardens and trees

Just like the Garden of Eden

And the owners of the Cafe¡¯s

Are reporting turnover has been increasing

Since the streets were made more pleasing

With cobble stones and magnificent homes

And many Hamiltonians

Like the beat on the street

Because they have friends to meet

And places to see

They send their kids to schools

Where they ban lambs from praying

Under the Ministry¡¯s new rules

Because they don¡¯t believe

In the invisible

And because it¡¯s cool

For the only form of prophesy

That is acceptable in schools

Is that everything is going to get better

So long as nobody breaks the rules

And we¡¯re all good boys and girls

Meanwhile at the hospital

Doctors and nurses

Do time and cost

For the Ministry has become impatient

With staff who talk too long to patients

And down at the Courthouse

The lawyers and the Police Force

Try to appease the needy

From the violent and greedy

Down at the stadium

The crowd love their entertainment

For their boys are renowned

For pleasing the crowd

Because of the way they play

Like the gladiators

Like nothing has changed

Since the days of the ancients

And Hamil town girls are loyal

And pray their boys don¡¯t stray

Especially when their boys

Play their games away

And down in Hamil town

Everything looks great

If you look at the price of Real Estate

Which is either inflated

Or deflated

According to the interest rates

That the central bankers dictate

Which pretty much

Sums up the state

Of Hamil town today
