Addictions

By Phil Young Copyright 2008 Sovereign Books Limited

Some people have propriety

About the state of our society

But let¡¯s all talk about

The nature of our sobriety

While you were speaking out

About freaking out

I noticed you were flippin out

And trippin out

Like you seem to do it different now

When throwing your stones

At the weak and the poor

At those in the zone

Because their addictions

Are different to yours

Like the Magistrates of the Law

Drinking wine whiskey or gin

When in the 1960¡¯s Timothy Leary

Was being sentenced to 30 years in prison

For having just two joints upon him

Meanwhile alcoholic dependence

Was known to be creating domestic violence

And while the sentence was given to Tim

Scientific research was saying

Drunkenness was making driving dangerous

Especially for those suffering from incoherence

Like they couldn¡¯t look past

Their own brand of cigarettes

So these age old addictions

Of wine whiskey or gin

Of being in the zone

With your seratonins going

Are not going to go home

For they have been here

Since the beginning of sin

For the world hasn¡¯t changed its afflictions

Since Christmas or thanks giving night

And not even the upright

Can make any difference

To the families with ones in prisons

Because of their addictions
